Elsje Hannah is the lead counsellor and was trained at Trinity Western University in Counselling Psychology. She has her CCC (Canadian Certified Counsellor) designation from the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and her RCC (Registered Clinical Counsellor) designation from the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.
Her education includes a B.A. in Psychology, and an M.A. in Counselling Psychology. In addition, she has certificates in Senior’s Issues and in Grief and Loss (Counsellor’s Training Institute) as well as in Observed Experiential Integration (SightPsych). Elsje’s experience includes working at the Vancouver Crisis Centre, the BC Cancer Agency, Surrey Hospice Society, Laurel Place Hospice Residence, Surrey Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit and the Nanaimo Community Hospice Society. Her professional development includes “Counselling Grieving Children and Adolescents”, “Caring for the Dying: Making the Village Whole”, “Caring for the Living and Carrying the Dead”, and “Spirituality and Multiculturalism”. She has also taken “Advance Training in Trauma Treatment” with Dr. John Briere and most recently, “Exploring Spiritual Aspects of Death, Grief and Mourning” and “Helping Children and Teens Cope with Grief” from Dr. Alan Wolfelt.
Elsje’s counselling approach is integrative and she believes that certain therapy models are best suited to specific problems. This simply means that the individual client and problems they want to work on are the best indicators for what type of theoretical orientation will best fit. In addition to various therapy approaches, she believes that there can be deeper meaning for people who are going through difficult times in life. Making sense out of a bad situation can help bring healing and peace to a person. She understands the meaning of living in the face of dying and has worked hard to assist the terminally ill in “dying healed” emotionally, psychologically and spiritually.
It is our goal at Celtic Place to assist with this quest, should this be your desire.
